Nature inspires this range of Nicky’s work. Seed heads, birds, umbels, leaves, flowers & silver birch all feature in these pieces. Cobalt & coloured clay slips, paper resist & sgraffito (incised) techniques are used as well as maiolica painting. The latter is an ancient technique originating in Mesopotamia which involves painting pigments onto the unfired tin glaze prior to the final firing. The ‘Umbels’ range includes ceramic wall hung plaques & tiles. Impressed ferns & other leaves may also be integral to a design.
